Overview

Gorakhgad is a fort located in Murbad. Gorakhgad was mainly used for meditation. There is a small Mahadev temple on the top of Gorakhgad . The Ahupe Ghat, Siddhagad & Machindragad can be seen from the top of Gorakhgad. While very little is known about the history of the Gorakhgad Fort, what we do know is that the fort was said to be of great importance during the reign of Shahaji Raje and during the time of Chatrapati Shivaji, the fort was primarily used as a stopover point for the journey between Junnar to Naneghat. The fort itself seems to be built to serve two purposes, first, as a surveillance point and second as a pit stop for travellers. In fact, the two forts Gorakhgad and Macchindgrad are named after a teacher and his disciple respectively. Sant Gorakhnath was known to meditate at the spot where the Gorakhgad Fort was built and the twin fort of Macchindgrad built on a nearby peak was named after his disciple. The Gorakhgad Fort trek is a popular trek  , primarily known for its challenging inclines and the opportunity for trekkers to do some rock climbing.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 – Saturday 

  •  09:00 Pm: Hadapsar
  •  09:30 PM : Swargate , Near sarasbaugh
  •  10:00PM : Chatrapati Shivajinagar pune

Day 2- Sunday 

  • 03:00 Am We arrive at the base of the Gorakhgad Fort. Our field experts will provide pre-trek information and instructions to all participants.
  • 04:00 – 06:00 Now we start the trek to the Gorakhgad Fort. We need to ascend approximately 1,150 ft. It takes about two and half hours to reach the top from the base.
  • 06:00 – 06:30 Now, You can enjoy the view of the sunrise.
  • 06:30 – 09:00 Explore the Gorakhgad Fort You can see the newly installed wooden door. The old but strong structure of the Gorakhgad fort is worth seeing. The carved steps and water tanks are very imaginatively made. You can also see a very BIG carved cave. Enjoy the view of the Machchindragad pinnacle from Gorakhgad fort. From north to south, you can see many forts and hills.
  • 09:30 – 12:00 Now we start descending to the base village via the same route. Reach Dehri village & Refresh yourself. (Toilets are available there.)
  • 12:00 – 01:00pm Let’s have a meal together. Served hot and tasty vegetarian food.
  • 01:30 – 07:00pm Start the journey back to Pune with very pleasant memories and non-biodegradable garbage.
  • We are going to take a short break for tea.
  • 07:00pm Reach Pune and now it’s time to say goodbye to your travel companion. Let’s keep in touch via phone / social media and meet again on another memorable trip.
